Our next 2-day live course will be held on 15th and 22nd April 2026.
Do you occasionally (or more regularly) need to administer a WISC-V in your clinical practice?
Did you receive minimal training on the WISC-V as a trainee?
Did you perhaps only administer one or two WISCs before qualifying?
Do you feel reasonably confident in administering the WISC-V but sometimes wish you could go beyond the basics of interpretation?
Have you been looking for some support to interpret your assessments?
If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, then this training is for you!
We have administered hundreds of WISCs between us, and never seemed to be able to find appropriate CPD to help us take our assessments to the next level. The WISC is full of advanced interpretation tools, but any training we could find was at a very basic introductory level. After having it as an appraisal objective in the NHS to find training on more advanced interpretation, Emma suggested to Katherine that we just write our own! We've learned a lot along the way, and we've done the deep deep diving into the manuals so that you don't have to. We've developed a 2-day course which aims to develop confidence in the core skills of WISC-V administration and interpretation, finesse existing skills, and take your administration and interpretation to a higher level. This is the training we wish we'd had!
We have developed 4 modules to date:
Module 1 (Setting the Scene) covers introducing the assessment in the waiting room, managing engagement throughout the assessment, and a general overview of the WISC-V (including the physical kit vs Q-interactive).
Module 2 (How To's of Administration) covers our best-practice administration tips, common errors and how to avoid them. We take a detailed look at the primary subtests, and also cover the complementary and secondary subtests (what they involve and why might you include them).
Module 3 (Scoring and Interpretation) is where we combine science and art! We go over accurate scoring procedures (including some tricky details that can be easy to miss!) and spend a long time on cohesiveness and clinical meaningfulness to help you interpret tricky and spiky profiles with confidence.
Module 4 (Recommendations and Report Considerations) looks at translating results into real-world recommendations. We look at what you can and can't recommend in relation to schools, and we give you advice on writing the best possible report.
The training is 2 online days - timings to be confirmed once the booking link goes live. We aim to keep it engaging and interesting, interspersed with lots of real-life examples and self-study exercises. We have a lot of content to get through and do not expect you to speak (although will take some questions in the chat) but instead allow you to take responsibility for your own learning and engage in whatever way helps you get the most out of the course.
If live training isn't your thing or you can't make the dates, recordings will be circulated afterwards along with learning materials.
In due course, we hope to offer a self-directed course for you to enhance your knowledge in your own time.
The training costs £299. This covers both days. Payment is taken via the booking page.
This training assumes some (although admittedly quite basic) awareness of the WISC-V. We expect that attendees will have administered at least one WISC-V at some point in their career. At the moment, this training is only available to qualified practitioner psychologists (typically clinical or counselling psychologists) who are working in a clinical context outside of neuropsychology services. If you are unsure whether this training is for you, please contact us with some information about your background and role, and what you hope to achieve through the training.
Of course! We offer ad hoc supervision and consultation on cognitive assessments. Please contact us for more information, and we can think with you about what support might be most helpful to you.
